Voicemail

Consider how many times you have been waiting for a call only to discover that you have forgotten your phone at home or the office, requiring you to rush back. With YouMail, you can relax and just check your voicemail messages from any computer. In addition, Verizon charges Android users $2.99/month for their Verizon visual voicemail app. iPhone users get a far weaker version for free. YouMail’s free version does everything Verizon’s Android voicemail app does and more. You can even record your own custom voicemail greeting or download one from the YouMail community to automatically greet contacts with their first name. YouMail can ditch all callers with hidden caller ID info, or specific callers if you desire. YouMail can even play a “number disconnected” tone and message for them so that you don’t have to worry about hearing from them again.

Spam Call Blocking

YouMail offers premium spam call blocking technology complete with call screening and personalized scam protection, starting at no cost. Verizon’s Call Filter app simply screens incoming callers to alert you if a number may be spam, a robocall, or fraud and is only free for Verizon customers with a compatible device. Their free plan also only includes basic spam detection, filtering, and reporting. YouMail’s free plan offers spam call blocking with other great features and is available to anyone on multiple devices.

Frequently asked questions

Verizon has two apps: one general app for visual voicemail and other features (My Verizon) and one spam call blocking app (Call Filter).

Basic Visual Voicemail is free and included with your smartphone plan. It’s not available for Android devices on prepaid accounts. Premium Visual Voicemail lets you read your voicemails for $2.99/line per month on Android/Windows phones. This is also not available on prepaid accounts. Voicemail to Text for iPhone delivers your voicemails as text messages for $2.99/line per month. Visual Voicemail is only supported on all Verizon-bought smartphones and select basic phones on standard accounts. On iPhone, Visual Voicemail is built into the Phone app. Android/Windows phones have a separate Visual Voicemail app. On prepaid accounts, Visual Voicemail is only available for iPhone, not on Android devices.

Verizon Call Filter is free, but Call Filter Plus is $3.99/month for one line or $10.99/month for 3+ lines.

Verizon makes money off of their expensive paid plans.

iOS: From a Home screen, navigate: Apps>Call Filter/Verizon. Tap Account (lower-right). Tap Current plan. Tap Manage plan (bottom of screen below current plan). Select No plan (Remove current plan) then tap Review changes. Review the account change then tap Confirm (bottom of screen).

Android: From the Home screen, navigate: Apps icon>Google Play Store. Tap the Account icon Account icon (upper-right). Tap Manage apps & device. From the 'Manage' tab, tap Installed. Tap Verizon Cloud. Tap Uninstall. If prompted, tap OK.

While Verizon does offer robocall blocking, blocking spam calls is YouMail’s #1 priority. At over 140 million robocalls made per day—many of which are endless calls harassing you about your auto warranty—privacy, peace, and quiet can seem like a daunting task. In fact, the Washington Post called YouMail the “nation’s best robocall blocking solution.”

From our free services to paid plans, YouMail protects consumers, enterprises, and carriers from harmful phone calls every day. When YouMail sees an illegal call, it can notify carriers, enterprises, and the authorities, so they can locate, take down, and punish the callers.

YouMail offers more features than Verizon on both free and premium plans. Features on our free plan include basic spam call blocking, voicemail transcriptions via email, in app, or text, caller ID, and more. Our premium paid plans offer call screening, which blocks 100% of spam calls for added security and privacy, additional voicemail storage and higher transcription limits, and other features such as additional virtual lines, auto attendant, and after hours settings if that’s what you’re looking for.

You can free up voicemail space by either deleting current messages or by upgrading to one of our premium plans. This will give you access to a larger inbox, allowing you to hold onto messages that matter to you.

Verizon’s Basic Visual Voicemail shows a list of your voicemails. You can choose which to play, delete or reply to with a call or text. Voicemail to Text for iPhone delivers your voicemails as text messages for $2.99/line per month.

YouMail has this feature as well. It’s easy and automatic when you sign up for our service.
