Common Questions

Q. How does YouMail work?

It's really simple. Calls you don't answer get forwarded to YouMail instead of your current wireless voicemail. That's it.

Q. Is YouMail really free?

Yes. YouMail does not charge for its basic service, nor does it intend to. Our users can also avoid or minimize any charges from wireless carriers by having a nationwide calling plan and/or a text messaging plan.

Q. Is YouMail easy to use?

Yes. Our users tell us its way easier and faster to use than their current voicemail. Sign up is easy, and you're up and running in a couple of minutes.

Q. Why should I switch to YouMail?

Because YouMail is going to change your life. Seriously. It's going to make you much more productive, and you're going to have a lot of fun using it. YouMail users just love it. And if you ever aren't happy with something, just tell us and we'll do our best to address it. When's the last time your phone company said that?

Q. Come on, YouMail can't be that great.

That's not a question, but we'll answer it anyway: Yes, YouMail is that great. You can have different greetings for all your callers and it's simple to set up, and we even provide a library of fun and professional greetings so you don't have to lift a finger. Be fun with your friends, sweet to your sweetie, and professional with your boss. You can get your voicemails online - just point, click, and play.

Q. Can I still retrieve my messages over the phone?

Yes, of course. You get just about everything you had with your old voicemail, we just add lots of cool features and make the whole experience slicker, faster, and a lot more fun.

Q. Anything else I should know?

Ah, thank you for that setup. Yes, you should know that YouMail makes it incredibly easy to share voicemails with your family and friends: through e-mail, instant message, and even embedding a voicemail on your favorite site. Once you can share voicemails easily - you won't be able to live without it. We know we couldn't. Just think about all the time you've written down notes on a voicemail and e-mailed it to someone. Or had someone leave you a funny message you wanted to share with your friends and you couldn't do it. Those days are gone.

Q. What's DitchMail?

DitchMail is a feature of YouMail that plays a message to a caller and then hangs up on them. It's surprisingly useful, since we've all given our cell phone numbers to someone where we've regretted it - whether it's a telemarketer or an ex who just doesn't take hints well (which is why they're an ex, though that's a different question).

Q. What if I don't like YouMail?

It's very easy to switch back to your old voicemail, and any voicemails in your old mailbox will be untouched. And, get this, if you don't like YouMail, we're happy to give you your money back. Actually, we don't charge, but it sounds good, doesn't it?
