What is "Transcription" and I how do I set it up?
Transcription is simply a "voicemail to text" process that converts audio voicemail messages into
SMS for YouMail users in able to better monitor recorded messages and avoid having to write down details from the
voicemail messages such as telephone numbers, addresses, or directions.

To setup Transcription:
- Click on My Accounts link at the upper right corner of the screen.
- Click on Transcriptions – Beta! link at the left menu.
- Select from the "Use Transcriptions?" drop-down on which callers you would want to get message
transcriptions from:
- OFF: To not get any transcription from any of your voice message.
- ON – All My Callers: To get transcriptions of all your voice messages.
- ON – Only My Contacts: To only get transcriptions from voice messages from your contacts.
- If you set your transcription to ON, you can ask your caller to speak clearly in able to transcribe their
message more accurately:
- Select the Ask my callers to speak clearly checkbox to play "Please speak clearly as this message is being transcribed by YouMail." after your caller hear the greeting. This will play to all your contacts if you selected ON – All My Callers while it will only play to your contacts if ON – Only My Contacts is selected.
- If Ask my callers to speak clearly checkbox is not selected, your caller will not be asked to speak clearly after they hear the greeting.
- Each carrier has different maximum number of characters for each text message. Depending on your
carrier, callers may leave you very long messages and it might require multiple text messages in
able to send you the entire message. Due to this reason, YouMail allows you to limit the maximum
number of text messages you would want to receive for each transcribed voicemail message. You can
select the maximum number of text messages you would want to receive for each voice message you
receive from the "TXTs To Send" drop-down:
- Do Not Send TXTs: No voice message transcription will be sent via text message.
- Only 1 Text: Only 1 transcription text message will be sent to you even if caller left you a long voicemail that requires 2 or more text messages, you will only get the transcription text message of the first part of the voice message.
- Up to 2 Texts: You will receive maximum of 2 transcription text messages for each voice message.
- Up to 3 Texts: You will receive maximum of 3 transcription text messages for each voice message.
- Up to 4 Texts: You will receive maximum of 4 transcription text messages for each voice message. Note: You will receive text messages for voice message transcriptions even if your transcription is set to OFF.
- Click on the [Save Changes] button.
- Transcription (if set to ON) can be viewed at the message view pane in your mailbox. Simply click on the message to display the message view pane.
